Two games, two identical scores, one win and one loss.
That was the outcome for Escalon’s JV Lady Cougars on the basketball court this past week, as they lost at home but won on the road, both with 30-25 scores.
“Tuesday we lost to Ripon by five, we got it down to two points at one time,” said coach Kacey Cheary. “When we played them earlier (tournament play vs. the lady Indians) their press caused us some trouble, the girls did a lot better job against it this time.”
Daisy Camacho had seven points to lead the JV girls and Haylie Corriea added four as the young Lady Cougars came up just a few points short on the home court.
Thursday, it was the same final score, 30-25, but this time it was a game that went into the win column for Escalon against Ripon Christian.
“We could have played a little stronger,” Cheary admitted of the road effort from her team. “If we had played like we did against Ripon, it would have been no contest.”
Despite the close contest, Cheary said her girls did hit some clutch shots that allowed them to get out of the RC gym with the win. Alexa Gomez had seven points, Priscilla Nowling added five. The girls, with the split, improved to 2-1 in league play and this week will host Hilmar on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m.
They were scheduled to play at Hughson on Tuesday, after The Times went to press.
