The Escalon Wrestling Club (EWC) kicked off the 2015-16 season at a SCWAY tournament at McNair High School in Stockton on Sunday with most of the young grapplers coming away with a medal. In the 5-6 year old age group Ramon Hinojosa took 2nd place. In the 7-8 year old group, Taylor Rowe looked very impressive in dominating all four of his opponents to bring home some gold. Alex Gutierrez also dominated the field to take 1st place. Luca Cerasi took 2nd with his only loss to a defending Idaho state champion.

In the 9-10 group Sammy Hinojosa took 1st place while JW Mills took 2nd in his weight class and Christian Rowe grabbed a bronze medal. Talan Reider returned to the EWC after a year off and took 4th place in a very competitive weight class. Competing in the 11-12 age group and not to be outdone by his younger brother, Taylor, Thomas Rowe looked very good in his EWC debut by going 4-0 and taking 1st place. Garrett Nash took a strong 2nd place with his only loss to defending NUWAY national champion Cesar Garza of Oakdale.

The EWC looks to continue its strong start at the prestigious SCWAY Beast Of The West Tournament in Rocklin on Dec. 6.
