Babe Ruth Day

Evaluations for players signed up for the city’s Babe Ruth program will be this Saturday, Jan. 21 at Hogan-Ennis Park, adjacent to the Community Center. Majors players, ages 11 and 12, will have evaluations from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Minors, ages 9 and 10, meet from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Rookies, ages 6, 7 and 8, meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Players are advised to arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled evaluation time to sign in.

 

February Color Run

Benefitting the Escalon Educational Foundation, a special Color Run is set for Saturday, Feb. 11 with both a 5k and a one-mile run/walk offered. Races take off from and finish at El Portal Middle School, 805 First St., Escalon. Cost is $30 for the 5k Run, $25 for the one-mile Fun Run; Escalon Unified School District students pay $20 for either run. Register by Friday, Jan. 20 to guarantee a race T-shirt. Races begin at 8 a.m. Register online at active.com or at any Escalon Unified School District office. For more information, contact Annette Wing at 209-606-7161. Early packet and T-shirt pick up is set for Friday, Feb. 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Leonardo’s Café, 1764 Main St., Escalon. There will also be a soup and pasta dinner available for purchase that evening at Leonardo’s during the same time. Race day packet and T-shirt pick up will be from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at El Portal.

 

Sandhill Crane Tours

Docent-led public tours are offered through the California Department of Fish and Game at Woodbridge Ecological Reserve the first three Saturdays and Sundays of January and February. The reserve is located just west of Lodi and offers managed wetland habitat that attracts the sandhill cranes each year. Tours begin two hours before sundown. Visitors can register for tours online at www.wildlife.ca.gov/regions/3/crane-tour. Self-guided tours, highlighted by a set of interpretive panels, also are available at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve South Unit, 11154 W Woodbridge Road, Lodi.
