After compiling a 26-6 overall record, going 12-0 in claiming the Trans-Valley League title, the Escalon Cougars varsity baseball team also finished their season as the Sac-Joaquin Section D-5 runner up.
They presented team honors at the Spring Sports Awards Night, with plenty of hardware to be handed out. Head coach Greg Largent also compiled some season-ending statistics, which showed plenty of Cougars contributing to the success of the team.
Leading hitter overall was Parker Cosby, .412, while Lucca Dutra was the leading hitter in Trans-Valley League action, .529. Dutra also had the most hits, 37; most RBIs, 29; most extra base hits, 11; most triples, three; and most home runs, one. He also shared the most doubles honor with Cosby and Justice Naraghi, rapping out seven apiece.
On the mound, Nick Warren was the leader in innings pitched, 90.2; wins, 12; ERA, 1.00; and appearances, 16. Two no-hitters were pitched by Cougars this season, Steven Grossi against Grace Davis on March 8 in a 17-0 win; Naraghi vs. Bret Harte on May 18 in a 10-0 Cougar victory. Fielding, Nash Satnat was a perfect 1.000 and catcher Cosby had a .995 fielding percentage. The team winning percentage in league was 1.000 and overall, the Cougars had a .813 winning percentage.
Awards handed out at the May 31 sports awards night included the following team honors: Most improved players, Steven Grossi, Estephan Salcedo; Coach’s award, Nash Satnat, Casey Turner; George Williamson award, Justin Miranda; Chris Martinez Inspirational award, Jacob Alvarado. Gold Gloves went to Parker Cosby, Justice Naraghi, Colton Lowney, Jacob Alvarado and Estephan Salcedo. Co MVPs were Justice Naraghi and Parker Cosby. Also, Nick Warren was honored for setting the school record of most pitching wins in a season with 12 and Justice Naraghi was selected to the San Joaquin County All-Star team.
Trans-Valley League honors for the Cougars included Justice Naraghi, league MVP; Lucca Dutra, TVL Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year; Parker Cosby, TVL Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year; Nick Warren, Colton Lowney and Zach Abraham were selected as first team All-TVL honorees, with TVL honorable mention going to Jacob Alvarado, Estephan Salcedo, Max Nicholas and Tanner McCrary.
Team bat boys were Nico Bavaro and Willie Butler, with head coach Greg Largent and assistants Harold Hood, Bill Grogan, Don Nickerson and Dave Satnat.
