The girls improved to 3-1 in league with the pair of wins. On Wednesday, they had a bye, as Modesto Christian no longer has girls soccer. Escalon was scheduled to host Hilmar on Monday, Jan. 22 to close out the first half of league play.

For the JV girls, they also scored two wins, outscoring their opponent by an 8-1 margin over the pair of contests.

They played Jan. 15 against Mountain House and mirrored the varsity score, winning by a final of 3-1.

“Jayda Enes, Liz Cortez and Alexis Barron were the goal scorers for us,” said JV head coach Jen Schmidt. “Sarah Abraham is our starting goalie and she had her best game, with 11 saves.”

Friday, the JV squad traveled to Hughson and came away with a satisfying shutout win, 5-0.

Cortez scored two goals, with assists from Barron and Mireya Lomeli. Barron also scored two goals, one with an assist from Ella Adams and the other on a penalty shot.

“Jayda Enes scored our final goal of the game with an assist from Gena Goodman.”

The teams open up the second round of league play with a road game at Riverbank on Monday, Jan. 29 and then are home to host Ripon on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
