Busy Schedule Greets Cougar Tennis Players

In a fast-paced week of action, the Cougar tennis team got in several matches before rain washed out some scheduled activity late in the week.

On Monday, Feb. 29 they had a scrimmage at home against Ripon Christian and came away with an 8-1 win.

Girls Singles #1 Taylor Laugero won 6-0, 6-0; #2 Josie Redberg won 6-0, 6-3. In Girls Doubles #1 pair Mia DeVecchio and Nicole Sarkozy won 6-3, 6-2, while Girls Doubles #2 Brooklyn Berry and Allison Rigg were 6-1, 6-1 winners/

In Boys Singles, #1 Everardo Peralta won 6-3, 6-3 and #2 Michael Medina took a 6-4, 6-0 win off the court.

Only loss of the day came in Boys Doubles #1, with David Martinez and Jairo Duran losing 0-6, 2-6.

Boys Doubles #2 saw Trenton Busch and Josiah Beltran win 6-4, 6-0 and rounding out the day was a 3-6, 6-1 (7-1) win at Mixed Doubles for Tommy Pangan and Courtney Ney.

Tuesday the team had a match at Calaveras and got an 8-1 win there as well.

Winners were Laugero, 6-0, 6-0; Redberg, 6-0, 6-0; Mia DeVecchio and Sarkozy, 6-3, 6-2; Rachel DeVecchio and Kylee Irwin-Paz 6-3, 6-1; Peralta 6-2, 6-3; Michael Medina 4-6, 6-3 (tie breaker 10-5); Pangan and Beltran 7-5, 6-2; Duran and Ney, 6-6, 6-1. Only loss came at Boys #1 Doubles Martinez and Busch, 7-5, 4-6 (tie breaker 10-12).

 

“Josie Redberg and Mia DeVecchio teamed up for the Riverbank Doubles Tournament and got first place in the Girls Doubles #1 division,” head coach Staci (Gentry) Diaz explained of the tournament appearance wrapping up a busy week. “Overall, everyone played great, and I was proud of everyone’s work ethic.”
