Escalon’s varsity girls lost a close contest to Bret Harte this past week, falling 35-32 in non-league action.

“We got down 10 early on and trailed the whole game,” explained head coach Joseph Dalpogetti. “Every time we would go on a run they’d answer and get the lead back up to seven or eight.”

The coach noted that the Lady Bullfrogs stayed in a 2-3 zone the entire time against Escalon and were able to use their size on the inside as an advantage over the Lady Cougars.

“We gave ourselves a chance at the end to tie but couldn’t convert,” Dalpogetti said of taking the loss.

They were on the road for the Tuesday, Dec. 12 contest, their only game of the week.

“We spent the next two practices working on our zone offense,” added Dalpogetti, as they prepared for other teams that sit in zone coverage.

The girls are scheduled to play at home Wednesday, Dec. 20 with a 5 p.m. start time in the new gm against Summerville and then host Galt in a 7:30 p.m. contest Thursday, Dec. 21.

For the JV girls, their contest with the Bret Harte squad on Tuesday ended with a 30-19 loss.

“We were up 10-6 going into the half but then they scored 17 points in the third quarter,” said head coach Robbie Leal.

Hunter Wheeler paced the Escalon JV effort with six points, Maddie Wall chipped in with five.

The JV squad will face off with Summerville in the old gym on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and then take on Galt on Thursday, Dec. 21 with the normal start time of 6 p.m., in the new gym.
