The final week of competition for the El Portal Bowling league was hosted recently at McHenry Bowl in Modesto.

Team 6, Elaine’s Travel, won the second half of the league and took part in a roll off for the league championship with the first half winners, Team 5, Memorial Splitting Headaches.

In the roll off, the teams were tied after three games and needed a tenth frame roll off, with Memorial Splitting Headaches taking the overall championship in a very exciting finale, 68-43.

Team members for Memorial Splitting Headaches are Chris Magana, Suzanne Pater and Cindy Kruger, all receiving their first place trophies. The second place trophies went to Elaine’s Travel and team members Mary Panero, Louise Spurgeon and Sandy Cox.

Also earning trophies for the season were Kelly Homen, individual high average, 155.45 and high scratch series, 544; Robin Aufdermaur, high handicap series, 752; Jennifer Cunningham, high handicap game, 272; Cindy Kruger, high scratch game, 225; and Sandy Cox, most improved, with a plus 19.30 pins.

The new season for the El Portal Bowling League will start on Sept. 6 at McHenry Bowl at 9:15 a.m. in the conference room. All are welcome to come and bowl with the league to help raise money for sixth grade science camp.

“We are donating $2,280 this year to El Portal sixth graders,” said league secretary/treasurer Janice Alcantor.
