California High School Rodeo Association, CHSRA, District 5's first spring rodeo is scheduled for Feb. 5 at the Clements Rodeo Grounds. Rain dates of Feb. 12, 13, 19 and 20 have also been set due to the uncertainty of the weather at this time of year.
Along with gearing up for a new season, honors were recently handed out to District 5 members named to the 2004-2005 Wrangler All Star Team. Two local rodeo participants are among them, Russell Cardoza of Sierra View High in Escalon and Cassidy Vick-Hice of Escalon High.
A dozen rodeo athletes were tapped for the team, representing Escalon, Turlock, Lodi, Sonora, Galt, Calaveras, Mariposa and Oakdale schools.
A Wrangler All-Star Team member must be the top finishing underclassmen in an event at the end of the 2003-2004 competition year. Each member will receive two shirts and two certificates for jeans, compliments of Wrangler.
