A tough stretch for Escalon's varsity basketball girls has seen them lose an on the court leader and three of their last four games.

The squad won one of three in the Ripon Christian Tournament between the Christmas and New Year's holidays, then started off Trans-Valley League play with Riverbank, falling to the host Lady Bruins on Jan. 5.

The girls opened up a schedule of three games in the RC Tournament with the host team in late December and lost 61-42.

"Kaitlin DaDalt led us with 18 points, Kaitlyn Kelly and Ami Hood each had eight but that was also the game where Ami got hurt," coach Joseph Dalpogetti said. "She hurt her knee in the second half, she tried to go the next night but couldn't do it."

Hood, second leading scorer this season behind DaDalt, is still not back but it is hoped she can get on the court in the next week.

The girls fell to RC, then lost the next night to Central Catholic, taking a tough 33-28 loss. Parker Pilati was leading scorer with 10 points.

Wrapping up the tourney against Delhi, the girls poured it on for a 58-17 win, taking advantage of the weaker opponent.

DaDalt rang up 26 points including 14 in the first quarter.

"She was more of a post player the first couple of years, this year she's been shooting more from the outside. She had four 3's against Ripon Christian the first night of the tournament."

After the start of the year, and getting back to the school routine, the girls were in Riverbank for the Thursday night TVL contest, falling to the Lady Bruins 51-26.

They took a 10-9 lead after one but Riverbank went on a 13-3 run in the second quarter to lead 22-13 at the half.

"We turned the ball over, that led to a lot of fast breaks for them," Dalpogetti said.

DaDalt again was the leader for the Lady Cougars, putting in 16 points on the night.

The girls look to get back on the winning track this week, playing host to Orestimba on Thursday, Jan. 12. Varsity game time is 7:30 p.m.
