Getting back into the swing of Trans-Valley League play after the long holiday break, Escalon’s varsity soccer girls battled to a 2-2 tie this week with Hughson and fell to Hilmar, 5-3.

They were home to host Hughson and ended the contest by tying the Lady Huskies. Scoring for Escalon were Alexis Barron and Kyleigh Raffety, with assists from Mya Beary and Georgina Gallo. Leticia Gutierrez had three saves in goal.

Action against Hilmar was on the road for the varsity girls and they were outlasted by the host team in the 5-3 decision. Notching two goals for Escalon in the loss was Gallo, while Beary had one and assists came from Liz Cortez and Alondra Martinez. Gutierrez had eight saves.

“Gabby Goodman had an outstanding week of soccer,” noted coach Jamie Peoples. “She is just really stepping up for the team on the field and leaving it all out there. Natalie Cortes has been very consistent for us on defense as well.”

Hughson does not field a JV team so the younger Lady Cougars had only one game this week and lost a tough 8-0 contest on the road at Hilmar.
