Lady Cougar Golfers Double Up On Victories

Summerville and Bret Harte were the opponents this week and Escalon took them both down on the golf course, putting two more victories on the books.

The Lady Cougars played Wednesday against Summerville and Thursday against Bret Harte.

Escalon carded a 161 against Summerville, which had only two girls and did not post a team score.

Pacing Escalon was Lucy Allbaugh, 35; followed by Sarah Bava, 41; Bella Ambro, 42; Gracie Bracco, 43; Genevieve Cazassa, 44; and Kelsey Webster, 46.

“Summerville only had two girls, so our score didn’t matter as long as four girls finished,” explained co-coach Kristie Cathcart. “For each match, the six lowest scores get all-league points, so girls were playing for all-league points.”

Thursday against Bret Harte, it was a 154-182 victory for the Lady Cougars. Allbaugh, 33, and Bava, 38, were leaders for Escalon on the day. Bracco shot a 41, followed by Webster with a solid 42, Cazassa at 45 and Ambro rounding out the day with a 49.

“Bret Harte has always been a really good team, so it’s always good to get a victory over them,” noted Cathcart. “Lucy has been very consistent in her scores. She attends private lessons and plays in tournaments almost every weekend and it shows in her scores. Sarah, Gracie, Kelsey had good matches, shooting their lowest score this season.”

This week they were slated to host Linden on Tuesday for the last home match, after The Times went to press, and take on Argonaut at Castle Oaks on Thursday, Oct. 7.

“Thursday will be a tough match. We are currently tied for second with Argonaut, so this match will determine who will take second and third in the league,” the coach said.
