Hughson Tourney Action For EWC Competitors

The Escalon Wrestling Club competed at the Hughson Youth Tournament consisting of over 400 wrestlers on Dec. 2. EWC had 36 wrestlers represented at the early season tournament.

Here are results from the various divisions, with names spelled as provided.

 

7-8 year old division:

Beginners: Taking hard earned thirds were Cain Martinez and Cameron Elwess. Getting to the finals taking second place was the greatly improved Josefina Lopez.

Experienced: Fourth place finishers were Archer Sanders and Johnny Van Dyk. Looking tough taking third was Freddy Velasco. Rounding into form taking second was Adam Cordero.

 

9-10 year old division:

Beginners: Looking good taking third were Hayden Castro, Athena Quiroz, Cole McDowell. Winning hard fought championships were newcomer Conner McDowell, Rigden Mittlestadt, and, in Head Coach Derek Scott’s opinion, EWC early season most improved wrestler Beau Morgan.

Experienced: Taking tough thirds were Houston Sizuela, Luke Konradi, Donavan Martinez, Tyler Powell. Taking a gritty second place finish was Daulton Shinn. Taking first place and looking great was Luca Cerasi and in what Scott ranked as the best match he has ever seen him wrestle, coming from behind to win in triple overtime was two-time state placer Ramon Hinojosa.

 

11-12 year old division:

Beginner Lavin Gouzenne in his second tournament looked great taking second place as did the impressive Talen Rider. Taking home the title was, rebounding from a tough year last year, was Frankie Rodriguez. Also winning the title was returning two-time California State champion Alex Gutierrez.

 

13-15 year old division:

Looking very tough were third place finisher JW Mills and champion, five time state placer, Sammy Hinojosa.

 

The team was coached and directed by Brianne Cerasi, Derek Scott, Clinton Sizuela and Jeremy Mills.
