With a 3-1 win at home against Riverbank and a 1-1 tie on the road at Hughson, the Escalon varsity Lady Cougars have put themselves in a position to take one of the three soccer playoff berths from the Trans-Valley League. But the girls were slated to play at Modesto Christian in the regular season finale on Tuesday, May 6 after The Times wet to press and needed a strong showing there to make it to the postseason.

They entered the final game with a mark of 7-6-1.

Tuesday, they hosted Riverbank and it was Senior Night, with four seniors recognized for their contributions to the soccer program during their high school years. Seniors on the team this year included Megan Moore, Faryn Bolls, Kayla Ryan and Jennifer Torres. The JV team also decorated a banner for the varsity team, which the girls happily broke through to start the contest.

Three goals in the first half were enough to defeat the visiting Riverbank Lady Bruins, who played tough but were not strong enough to take down the host Lady Cougars.

"Amanda Franklin had the hat trick, she got all three goals," said coach Craig Humrichouse. "Getting the assists were Megan Moore, Jennifer Torres and Melanie Winkler."
