With four Cougars competing at the Masters Meet on Thursday and Friday in Sacramento, it was a busy week for coach Rick Heflin.
But it was his final time to travel with the team as head coach for track and field, the longtime coach stepping down from the post.
"I'm still doing cross country," he said, but noted that the track and field season now creates a conflict, as he wants to watch his daughter play high school and travel softball in the spring.
Sacramento proved to be the final stop for the Cougars as well, with Mckenzie Brown, Matt Barnum, Jackson Price and Pearl Rivers closing out their seasons at Sac City College.
Brown went on Thursday, May 22 to compete in the pole vault.
"She made the top 18 cut, she cleared 9-9 and set a new school record," Heflin said of the senior eclipsing the old 9-6 school mark.
It was also a new personal best for Brown.
Price, also qualifying for the Masters in the pole vault, went on Friday but had difficulty clearing the opening height of 12-4 and did not advance to the finals in that event.
