The Dream Catchers girls Fastpitch Softball 10 and Under Team placed second in recent tournament action at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, earning themselves a berth in the World Series to be held in Seattle, Washington in July.

The March 13 and 14 tournament was the first one of the year for the young squad

The team won their first two games and lost their third during the first day of tournament competition, which put them the next day's elimination play. The Dream Catchers then met and beat Riverbank's Team Action, earning a spot in the championship game.

The young ballplayers engaged in an exciting and well-played competition, but at the end of the seventh inning the win went to The Yard Sharks from Carmichael. The Dream Catchers came home with second place plaques.

Members of the team include Casey Schmidig, Emily Raspo, Caitlin Brooks, Kayla Loretelli, Morgan Eisenga, Stephanie Barraza, Ashley Lima, Leticia Martinez, Shelise Hatfield, Melissa Robles, Gina Batterton and Stephanie Moore.

In their second tournament of the season, it was an even better showing for the girls as they took first place at this past weekend's Rainbow Fields Tournament outside Riverbank.

"We won four out of four games," said team spokesperson Terry Brooks. "We defeated the Hughson Hurricanes and Team Action out of Riverbank."

Playing in Division B for the 10 and under squads, the Dream Catchers won all games in the double round robin event, taking first place in their division.

"They're on a roll," said Brooks.
