The Escalon Wrestling Club attended its second tournament of the year earlier this month, sending 19 wrestlers from ages 5 through 13 to an event at Tokay High School.

The club members, with a little experience under their belts, showed great improvement at the tournament with 12 medalists. Looking tough and taking third place honors were Johnny Van Dyk, Adam Cordeiro, Drake Faria, and William Butler.

“We were really encouraged by their improvement from the last tournament,” said Club President Derek Scott.

Having very good days and narrowly missing out on individual titles, finishing as tournament runner ups, were August Butler, Jacob Lee, and Conner McDowell.

EWC had five wrestlers bring home first place titles from Tokay. Champions were Jax Texeira, Jimmy McDowell, Colton Faria, Houston Sizuela, and Noah Dooley.

“These kids did a really good job. The coaches said they have been working hard in practice and following the coaches instructions,” Scott noted.

The team was coached at the event by co-head coaches Ben Lee and Clinton Sizuela.

“The coaches are doing a great job and have really been committed to helping the kids become better athletes and build a love of wrestling,” Scott explained. “We want it to be a positive experience for the kids. These coaches are great people who get the big picture; we are really lucky to have them helping us.”
