Cross Country Teams Battle For TVL Honors

Gabe Romero was the first varsity runner across the line for the Escalon boys at the regular season cross country finale.

Action in Modesto on Tuesday, Oct. 29 saw the Escalon varsity cross country girls taking fifth overall with Briana Briones-Chavarria finishing in third place overall and earning all-league honors. Varsity boys placed fourth; Gabe Romero paced the team with a fifth place finish of 17:23, which was a season PR. He was followed by Braiden Vega in 10th place, running a 17:42, also a season PR.

Juan Lopez 18:24, CJ Borrego 18:52, Emi Ramirez 18:54, and Moises Grajeda Padilla rounded out the varsity effort for the boys.

The frosh/soph girls placed third with Kim Abney placing third overall in a time of 14:17, followed by Belen Lechuga Soto 14:37, Gorette Coelho 14:47, Jill Junqueiro 15:09, Molly Terpstra 15:10, Mariana Peralta 15:12.

For the frosh/soph boys, they placed fifth, led by Jacen Peoples in 16th at 12:04 followed by TJ McNeil in 12:22.

“The team improved their collective team time over 2.5 hours from our first race at league to our last one,” noted head coach Rick Heflin.
