As the summer winds its way through June, players continue to stay busy with practices and games in the summer basketball league.

Varsity head coach Martin Louro and JV head coach Nate Bartelink are putting their players through the paces as they look to improve and focus on teamwork.

Louro said the off season regime is designed to pay dividends when the Cougars hit the court for the Trans-Valley League season later this year.

Bartelink agreed that the summer program is a good way to judge where the majority of work is needed.

"We have played 15-plus games this summer in the Escalon Summer League and will play about 20 more, including a team camp in San Diego at the end of June," Bartelink said. "We have had 12 to 15 freshmen and sophomores showing up and gaining valuable court experience that will give them a head start on next season."

Some of the players showing up on a consistent basis for Bartelink's JV team are sophomores Chapman Mello, Jacob Gutierrez, Marvin Lawrence, Colten Watson, Cody Franks, Gonzalo Gonzalez and Vincent Bacay, along with freshmen Caleb Hansen and Samuel Lattig.
