Adrian Cortes scored a second half touchdown and Brandon Shaw kicked a pair of extra points in a 14-6 win for the North all stars over the South in the July 1 Small School All-Star Football game.

The 19th annual contest was played in Calaveras and a half dozen Cougars were selected for the team. Cortes keyed a fourth quarter touchdown drive for the North team, rushing the ball five times in the scoring march for a total of 34 yards, including the final 2-yard plunge to the end zone.

That put the North in control, 14-0. The South got on the board midway through the final quarter to avoid the shutout. Shaw carried the ball twice in the game, for 22 yards and Victor Carrillo also had one carry for 2 yards.

Cougar players tapped for the all star game were Victor Carrillo, Adrian Cortes, Chad Hale, James Hill, Brandon Shaw and Jacob Wallace.

The game gave the Escalon honored seniors one final chance to hit the high school gridiron for competition.
