On Sunday, Jan. 6, the Escalon Wrestling Club had its annual home tournament, the SCWAY Nor-Cal Classic TOC/State Ranking Tournament.

There were over 400 wrestlers competing from the ages of five to 15.

“After four straight days of wrestling at EHS the tired crew and staff ran a great event that went smooth and was done by 3 p.m.,” said EWC head coach Derek Scott, noting that the Sunday tournament came after three days of high school wrestling in the school gym. “With 50 wrestlers competing and almost half at 24 bringing home hardware, EWC had a great day.”

Competing hard and placing in fourth were Aaron Quiroz, Houston Sizuela, Adam Cordeiro, Luca Cerasi, Luke Conradi, Tyler Powell and Talen Reider.

Taking home hard fought thirds were Jeremy Gorvette, Daulton Shinn and JW Mills.

Battling their way all the way to the finals falling just short of Gold were Runner-Ups Josefina Lopez, Vince Reis, Conner McDonald, Malachi Coble, Cole McDonald, Anthony Jones and Alyssa Herrera.

Proudly representing EWC with tournament titles were champions Cecelia Bargas, John Kemp, Rigden Mittlesteadt, Beau Morgan and Alex Guttierez (11-12 and 13-15 year old division).

“We had 24 medalists, 13 finalists and six champions including, undefeated in both age groups two time state champion Alex Guttierez,” Scott said. “I wanted to thank the Williams family for running the snack bar. Oakdale’s Abbel family for running the brackets and tournament details. Oakdale, Escalon and MC wresters along with Jon McDonald for referring the event.”

Scott also pointed to the efforts of Brianne Cerasi, Tony Cerasi, Courtney and Jeremy Reider and Nate Nash for running the weigh-ins.

“All the EWC parents did a spectacular job making the event run smoothly and the EHS wresting staff and wrestlers. I want to give a special thanks to Brianne Cerasi for directing and maintaining the event. Brianne does an amazing job running EWC. Also I wanted to thank the EWC coaches for all their time and energy: Coaches Jonathan Costa, Ben Lee, Scott Page, Jeremy Mills, Clinton Siezuela, Larry Lawrence, Jeremy Gorvette, Zac Morgan are all great coaches and helpers to EWC. I thank you for all your time and effort,” said Scott.

Earlier action saw the club compete at Tokay.
