Six Escalon High athletes will be heading to Stockton for the 14th annual High School All-Star Baseball and Softball Classic, set for Friday, June 18 at the San Joaquin Delta College Sports Complex.
From the varsity girls softball team, pitcher Nicky Brown, shortstop Missy Cullum and third baseman Melissa Nickas have all been tapped to play. Varsity baseball players representing Escalon in the competition will be second baseman Jesse Miguel, pitcher Zachary Swass and centerfielder K.J. Vandagriff.
Opening ceremonies for the Women's All-Star Softball Game will be held at 4:45 p.m. and opening ceremonies for the Men's All-Star Baseball Game will be held at 5:25 p.m.
This will mark the final high school game for many of the area's finest high school senior athletes from 25 high school across San Joaquin County and the Central Valley.
Prior to the games, children ages five to 12 are invited to attend a baseball/softball clinic hosted by Mitts 4 Kids, starting at 1 p.m. All children are welcome and admission is free for kids 12 and under. Children will be taught the basics of the game, learn how to catch and hit a ball. Equipment is not necessary and will be provided at the clinic. Area ball players and coaches will be helping with the clinic and the children will also be treated to dinner and a raffle. Pre-registration is recommended. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Stockton Police Youth Activities, Mitts 4 Kids Foundation, San Joaquin Boys & Girls Clubs, The GHB Project, and the participating High School sports programs.
