On July 10, the Escalon Babe Ruth 13-15 All Star team began the Babe Ruth District 1 Tournament in Hollister. Pitchers for the first game were Derrick Velting, Brent Montgomery, and Jaren Gonzales who gave everything that was asked of them and more. Unfortunately, the inability to come together on defense resulted in a 9-0 loss to Lodi.

In the second game the defense was lead by Tad Dimas, who made a diving catch to end the fifth inning and also made an outstanding throw on a fly ball to catcher Jaren Gonzales in the third inning. Pitching for this game were Nathan Chunn, Brent Montgomery and Derrick Velting.

With bases loaded, Phillip Kimble was walked in the fifth inning allowing Chad Winkler to score Escalon's first run. In the sixth inning, Vince Valenzuela hit a double and moved to third base on a base hit by Alec Loureiro. Vince Valenzuela scored on a passed ball giving Escalon their second run. Offense was lead by Alec VonAlvensleben with two walks and three stolen bases. An 11-2 loss to Manteca's strong-hitting Babe Ruth All Star team ended this tournament for the 13-15 baseball team.

Escalon entered this tournament with two 15-year-olds, eight 14-year-olds and three 13-year olds. Most teams in this division were predominantly 15-year-olds. Manager Larry Gonzales feels this team, next year, will be a lot stronger in this tournament.

Gonzales and Coaches Tony Gonzales and Jeff Velting thank all players and parents for all their time and hard work.
