Awards, Party Wrap Up Season For Escalon Swimmers

The Escalon Orcas finished out the 2008 season with a win over the Riverbank Barracudas and the Delhi Sailfish at home on Friday, Aug. 1. The 100 Free, 200 Free Relay and the 100 IM and 200 IM Relays were very successful.

"In the age 6-10 100 Free Relay we took second and third place," said coach Deborah Hawkins. "We placed second in the 11-12 200 free relay and first and third in the 13-18 200 free relay."

In the IM Relays the Orcas placed first and second in the 6-10 age group, first and third in the 11-12 age group and second in the 13-18 age group.

"Individually, we were also very successful, especially the 7-8 age group. We swept the freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly taking first, second and third and in the remaining event took first and second," Hawkins added.

Standouts in this age group were Rachel Swift, winning the butterfly with a time of 22.50, her best time of the season; Rebecca Moniz, winning the freestyle with an awesome time of 19.15, an improvement of four seconds off her last freestyle. Also, Hannah Murphy winning the breaststroke with a time of 29.34, which was an amazing 10-second improvement, and Cassidy Pehl winning the backstroke with a time of 26.22, her best time of the season.

In the 9-10 age group, Kelly Colbert took first in the breaststroke with a time of 59.03, a personal best for her. Kaitlyn Mayfield took first in the 9-10 butterfly with a time of 60.12 and Nicole Luis took second with a time of 64.66.
