There are only a few things in life that are guaranteed and one of them is rodeo fans packing the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds for a weekend of wild fun. Like clockwork, fans came from near and far, gathering for the 72nd Oakdale Saddle Club PRCA Oakdale Rodeo. On Saturday, April 13, loyal rodeo fans flocked to the venue even with Mother Nature’s wrath of heavy rain intact. The heavier the rain, the louder rodeo fans got. On Sunday, April 14, with a few glimpses of sunshine, it was standing room only to see the finals. The arena floor was sloppy, covered in mud and muck, but that made for the perfect setting for the rodeo athletes who performed in it. The rodeo featured competitors from around the globe and even a few from the Cowboy Capital of the World. Oakdale’s own Kelsey Cadwell, Casey Branquinho, Wyatt Hansen and Cody Russell all competed in front of family, friends and fans. Jody Carper was the voice of the weekend in the announcer’s booth. Clown/barrelman Hippie Engelkes entertained rodeo fans of all ages. Those working the arena floor in a variety of capacities included pick-up men Rick Moffatt, Jared Groene and Jeffrey Shearer; bullfighters Dave Murdoch, Josh Daires and Austin Jones; flankman was Jeff Davis.
