Wilma ‘Lee’ Mullin, 89, of Valley Springs died Tuesday, March 26.
She was born in Jay, Okla. She lived her life in Escalon, Riverbank and Modesto and moved to Valley Springs in 1993. She spent a few years moving to and from Missouri and Oklahoma.
She worked for over 20 years in sales at Beno’s Department Store on McHenry Avenue in Modesto.
Mrs. Mullin was a great housewife and mother. She could cut patterns out of newspaper to make most of her family’s clothing. She made dolls and stuffed monkeys later on which are treasures to her family. She had some sayings for her children to live by, such as, “You’re only as old as you feel,” “You made your bed, lay in it,”, and “Life is not a bed of roses,” to name a few.
She was a woman of faith and loved the Lord. She ‘dragged’ all of her children to church in Escalon for years.
She had a wonderful life but with much suffering. She had 10 children by the time she was 29 years old and had buried two of them, Larry and Janice. In recent years she lost five more of her adult children and three grandchildren. All the while she stood like a majestic mountain. She lived with dementia for the past four years but was not incapacitated in any way, just a little slower and repeated some of her stories.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She loved life and she is so missed.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Robert) Hendrix of Valley Springs, Karen (Dave) Silva of Fresno, Phillip Mullin of Valley Springs; and more than 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Leroy Mullin; sons, Darrell (Jane) Mullin, Richard ‘Bear’ (Lillis) Mullin, Larry B. Mullin; daughters, Joyce (Johnny) Morgan, Dixie (Johnny) Garcia, Reta (Manuel) Guevara, and Janice Kay Mullin.
A viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3 at Riverbank Memorial Chapel 3131 Santa Fe St., Riverbank, with a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon.
