Ulysses Sherman Payne, Jr., 87, passed away Monday, Aug. 8 following a battle with congenital heart failure.

He was born in Blanchard, Oklahoma on July 11, 1924. He was a ship fitter First Class for the U.S. Navy (C.B.'s) from September 1943 through December 1945.

During his life, Mr. Payne was a renowned welder all over the world.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Glenda Payne; his daughters Sharon and Wanda; his two step-daughters Vicky and Wendy; his grandson Vincent; two great-granddaughters Tristine and Audrey; one brother Art; four sisters, Betty, Edna, Juanita and Pauline.

The funeral service will be a graveside service only, held at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12.
