Serafina Brasil, 84, of Escalon passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013 in Manteca.

Born Serafina Fontes in Fajãs dos Bodos, Sao Jorge, Azores on Feb. 28, 1929, she had called Escalon her home for the past 41 years.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the SES Council, and the FES Hall in Oakdale where she and her husband Victor were past president of the festa. Her passions included gardening, crocheting, cooking, and baking. She loved Christmas and every year loved building her town of Bethlehem and the manger.

Her family will always remember her as being a very religious woman along with being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her three sons, George Brasil and his wife Mariana of Escalon; Victor Brasil and his wife Sandra of Manteca; and Gilbert Brasil and his wife Kathy of Escalon; grandchildren Manuel, Stephanie and Carlos Brasil all of Escalon; Laura, Briana and Melanie Brasil all of Manteca; and Jacob and Sofia Brasil, both of Escalon; and her sister Isabel Silveira of Hughson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband Victor Brasil; nine brothers and four sisters.

Visitation was Monday, Aug. 26 at the funeral home with a vigil service also on Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with burial at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.

Serafina truly believed in having masses said for those loved ones who have gone before us. In her memory donations in the form of Masses in her memory or in the memory of those loved ones gone before may be sent to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 19399 Highway 120, Ripon, CA 95366.
