Paul Verdegaal

Paul P. Verdegaal, 80, passed away peacefully on Nov. 14, 2009, at his Ripon residence.

He was born Oct. 24, 1929 in Noordwijkerhout, Holland and had lived in Ripon for the last 60 years. He grew up in Holland during WWII and boarded a freighter ship with his mother and siblings to make their way to the United States during his early teens. The family arrived in Baltimore, MD and then made their way to Stockton, CA by train in 1949. Paul worked as a dairyman for 13 years and an almond farmer for 47 years.

Survivors include his second wife, Vangie Verdegaal, to whom he was married for 17 years; six children, Paul Verdegaal Jr. of Acampo, Bob Verdegaal of Ripon, Frank Gomes of Silversprings, NV, John Sheetz of Oakdale, Debra Kenobbie of Georgetown and Diane Caton of Atwater; siblings, Pete Verdegaal of Modesto, Alie Van Ryn of Escalon, Jane Dubbs, JoAnn Smallwood, Ann Anderson and Willie Hockenberry, all of Modesto; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Clara J. Verdegaal.

Visitation was at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 19 with a Rosary/Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Friday, Nov. 20 with a committal service at Burwood Cemetery.
