Paul James Price, 86, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1927 and was one of 11 children born to Benjamin and Anna Price.

He served in the Unites States Army, 23rd Infantry, Second Division where he completed his training at Fort Ord in Monterey, California. Shortly after being honorably discharged in 1947, he met Evelyn Marcell Price, the woman who would become his wife. Paul and Marcell were married for more than 40 years.

Mr. Price was a jack of all trades and he took his young family of five up and down California looking for work. From Long Beach to San Jose to Escalon, where Paul, Marcell and their four children: Dennis, Sherri, Alan and Les, finally settled. He was committed to supporting his family. Often working two jobs at a time, from bartending at Jack’s or the Stardust to working as a lineman for PG&E, he truly defined what it means to be a hardworking man. He retired in the mid 1990’s from Norris Industries after more than 30 years of service as a machinist.

Retirement didn’t slow him down though. He opened the Price Private Security Agency where his slogan was “The Price is Right” and he volunteered for the Sheriff’s S.T.A.R.S. Program for more than 10 years. If you were to ask him what his proudest moment was, though, he would smile and tell you that it would have to be when he and his grandson, Cody, who was only 12 at the time, won the Team Roping Event at the ACTRA National Finals in Reno, Nevada. For a man who had lived his life cowboying, this win was the ultimate honor and achievement for him.

Survivors include his children, Sherri Bear of Escalon, Alan Price of Waterford and Les Price of Modesto; grandchildren, Matt Price, Jackson Price, Jenna Price, Kristi Mayfield, Cody Price, Kaitlin Price, Ben Price, Eli Price, Sam Price, Luke Price; his brother, Troy Price; and sister, Vada Woody.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marcell; his son Dennis; his grandson Tyler; his parents, Benjamin and Anna; his sisters Velma, Prudence, Cleda, Freda, Betty and his brothers Benjamin, Fred and Hubert.

He was many things to many people but to his family he was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and daddy and he will be dearly missed.

Viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin St., Escalon.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at the home of Sherri and Gary Bear at 29607 Hall Road in Escalon.
