Marvin Nathaniel Applequist, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the Sublette Center in Pinedale, Wyoming.
Born in Quick, Nebraska, he had previously lived in Valley Home for 20 years and Farson, Wyoming for 25 years. As a boy, he and his family moved to Escalon and he worked his way through high school milking cows.
During World War II, he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands for three-and-a-half years. After the war, he returned home to Escalon and married his high school sweetheart, Betty Thompson. Together they owned a dairy ranch in Valley Home and raised their four children. They later sold the farm in California and moved to Farson to raise cattle on their ranch there.
Active in the United Methodist Church, Mr. Applequist was also a 4-H leader, a board member of the weed and pest control, a lifetime member of the Green River Cattleman's Association and a member of the Grange Organization and the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Applequist of Farson; children, JoAnn Crouch of Petaluma, Marvin Applequist II of Farson; Estella Loogman of Escalon, and Peter Applequist of Farson; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigfred and Esther Applequist and sisters, Dorothy Smith, Evelyn Drew and Phyllis Goodanetz.
A service took place in Farson, Wyoming on Feb. 6 with interment at Eden Valley Cemetery in Eden, Wyoming.
