Louie (Luigi) Gioachino Grossi, 89, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1923 in Gudo, Switzerland, the son of Lorenzo and Antonia Grossi.

He moved to Vallejo, California at the age of 30 in 1953 where he worked for Stornetta's Dairy. In 1955, he moved to Escalon where he ran the family ranch and dairy. He also opened The House of Cheese deli in the '80s and was an active member of Stanislaus County Swiss club and Dante club.

Mr. Grossi enjoyed spending time with his family and being active in his grandchildren's lives. His hobbies were fishing, bike riding, dancing, and playing the harmonica. From his teens and into his twenties, he was a professional soccer player in his hometown in Switzerland. He was an active member of the community, showing support and spirit at every practice and community sports game. His favorite sports teams were the Sacramento Kings and San Francisco 49ers.

A friend to many and a father and grandfather who was loved very much, he will be deeply missed by all.

Survivors include his children, Robert (Bob) L. Grossi, Lawrence (Larry) and wife Shannon Grossi; grandchildren Michael, Anthony, Nicholas, Caterina, Nina and Harrison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Virgino, Florentino; sisters, Florinda, Anetta; and daughter Mary Lou Grossi.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a Mass immediately following at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Burial will follow Mass at St. John's Cemetery. Reception will follow.
