Josef Berchtold, 85, of Stockton, died Wednesday, Aug. 4 at his home.

Born in Switzerland, he had lived in the Stockton area for 44 years. He was a retired carpenter with Local Union #25 out of Stockton. He had been a member of the Local #25 Carpenters for 50 years in Stockton, was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Past President and Past Treasurer of San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his children, Ozzie Berchtold of Stockton, Tony Berchtold of French Camp, Joey Berchtold Jr. of Escalon and Rita Gorham of Stockton; siblings, Otto Berchtold of Stockton, Felix Berchtold and Freida Koch, both of Switzerland; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Berchtold, in 1998.

Services were Tuesday, Aug. 10 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Vigil and visitation were held previously. Private interment at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
