John 'Raymond' Swanson, 93, died Wednesday, Dec. 19 in Manteca.
Born on Aug. 9, 1914 in Swedeburg, NB, he had lived in the Manteca and Escalon areas since 1921.
He served his country through the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He retired from DVI in Tracy after 25 years as a dairyman manager. He served on the board and taught adult Sunday school classes for many years at First Assembly of God.
For the last six years, he was a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Manteca. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and camping; he was a true outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Doris Swanson; children, Verna and Bob Kaster, Beverly and Ray Read, all of Pollock Pines, John and Emmie Swanson, Irene and Mike Delnero, Doug and Kim Swanson, Pamela and Carl Yamasaki, Patricia and Tony Dutra, George and Sandee Quaresma, all of Manteca; sister, Helen Cohagan of Ripon; 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Swanson, in 1966 and a daughter, Sandra Quaresma.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 No. Union Road, Manteca.
Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.
Memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Christian Church of Manteca or Hospice of San Joaquin.
