Joe Alves Pinheiro, 89, died Thursday, July 15 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born on June 14, 1921 in Faial, Azores to Joe and Rosa Pinheiro.

A resident of Escalon for the past 50 years, he worked in the dairy industry for most of his adult life and for the past 10 years he also worked for Escalon Packers. He enjoyed gardening, traveling to the Azores, attending Portuguese celebrations and loved to dance. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, U.P.E.C. and I.D.S.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Lena; children, Maria (Javier) Marquez of Fontana, Joe (Donnie) Pinheiro of Escalon, Lina (Joe) Faria of Escalon, Rose (James) Habenicht of Oakdale and Daniel (Valerie) Pinheiro of Escalon; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister Maria Vargas of Stockton; and his brother Arnold (Fatima) Pereira of South San Francisco.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon.

Rosary/Mass will be held on Friday, July 23 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with burial following at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
