Joe P. Pereira, 75, a 42-year resident of Escalon, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26 from a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born on March 13, 1938, Joe’s love was his family, church and cows. He served on St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Board, Oakdale FES Board and the Escalon Portuguese Band Board. He was a contributor to many area Portuguese Holy Ghost Celebrations and loved attending and participating in those events.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Alice Pereira; four children, Joe P. Pereira, Jr. (Helen) of Patterson, Richard H. Pereira (Dana) of Escalon, Alice G. Pereira of Escalon, and Darlene M. Seay (Larry) of Manteca; six grandchildren, Justin Serpa of Farmington, Michelle Dufour of Patterson, Rebecca L. Pereira of Patterson, Jordan Pereira, Taylor Pereira, and April Pereira of Escalon; one great-grandchild Rylie; and two siblings, Daniel Pereira of Pleasanton and Carlos Pereira of Manteca.

He will be missed by many.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Deegan Funeral Chapel.

A Rosary was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 3 and the funeral Mass was Tuesday, Feb. 4, followed by burial at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
