James Clyde Payne passed away at his home in Escalon, California on June 17, 2022 at age 85. He was born in Prairie Grove, Arkansas on September 10, 1936.

James has been a resident of Escalon for 70 years. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1962. In 1959, James married the love of his life, Amelia Esther Payne, and the pair raised their daughter, Alicia. James served as a peace officer for 34 years, and he was a founding member of the Escalon Community Ambulance as well as a member of the Escalon Historical Society. James enjoyed the great outdoors, and he especially loved to travel with his family. James will be remembered for his dedication to serving Escalon, and he will be dearly missed by his friends, family and his Escalon community.

James is now reunited with his beloved wife of 62 years, Amelia Esther Payne, and his late daughter, Alicia Jan Sanderson. James is survived by his grandchildren, Cole Sanderson and Kara Sanderson; his sister, Louise Rusconi, along with many extended family and friends.

Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Payne family. A graveside service will take place at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10 a.m.
