Gerald Archie Prater, 72, of Escalon died Tuesday, Nov. 2.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Prater was a lifelong resident of Escalon and a farmer. He graduated from Escalon High School and married Carol Claudia Engel. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also was active in the community and was a member of the Farm Bureau. His hobby was his children.
He is survived by his brother, Wendell Prater of Escalon; sister, Marion Hanner of Tracy; children, Tim Prater, Tye Prater, Thayer Prater, Tacy Zschokke, Trina Weyerman, and Trinette Krebs. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Trevor, Nathan, Adam, Zachary, Apryl, Anna, Joseph, KaTrina, Bryce, Carolyn, Spencer, Eden, and Keturah.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Emily, and now rejoins his beloved wife Carol who passed from this world eight years previously.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 800 Sylvan Ave., Modesto. A private burial at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon, will follow.
