Floris Elaine (Miner) Hollaway, 74, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.
She was born in Wichita, Kansas on Nov. 17, 1938 to John and Eloise Miner. She lived with her parents between Kansas and San Francisco and later with her brother, David and his family in Wichita, Kansas when she met the man she was destined to spend her life with. She was married to Roy Hollaway on June 24, 1960 and spent 53 years as his loving wife.
The couple moved to California in 1961, where they raised their family of four children. They moved to Escalon and have lived there for the past 43 years.
Floris lived her life with one purpose. She wanted to make certain that the people she loved knew how much she loved them. She certainly succeeded. She was a homemaker first and foremost throughout her life, even though she maintained a career as a cosmetologist until she was way past retirement, owning her own business throughout much of her adult life, working in shops, and most rewardingly, working in nursing homes to make the elderly feel just a little more vibrant in their later years with her skill, humor and compassion.
She was a very devoted Christian woman that instilled her faith in her children and shared with those around her without appearing evangelistic. She was very open-minded and even a little progressive at times…enough to shock her family. She left an impression of love on everyone she touched. In her earlier life, it was Sunday school, vacation Bible school, or missionary Bible school, where she was able to share with kids how much God loved them because she showed them how much she cared about them.
Mrs. Hollaway “collected” children and grandchildren throughout her life. Those she touched would immediately become her child or grandchild. For those extended family, she had a special bond.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Hollaway; children, Jonathan Hollaway (Sarah), Robert Hollaway (Sandy), Eloise Garcia (Edward), and Janice Hollaway Dutt; grandchildren, Daniel Garcia, Mary Hollaway Winn-Papale, Jaren Dutt, J. Devin Dutt, and Justis Dutt; three great-grandchildren; and her brothers, David Miner and Floyd Miner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eloise Miner.
Funeral arrangements were by Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon.
Visitation was at the chapel on Monday, Oct. 28. Services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at First Baptist Church in Escalon, with burial at Burwood Cemetery.
