It is with great sadness to share the passing of our mom, Evelyn Luis, February 3, 2023. Evelyn was born, October 14, 1931 in Patterson, CA; daughter of Manuel and Fenicia Souza. Evelyn was a twin to her brother, Elias, who passed away at 11 months from pneumonia. The Souza family moved to Tracy, CA and Evelyn graduated from Tracy High School.

Evelyn met the love of her life, Tony Luis, at a dance and were married November 18, 1951. Tony and Evelyn were married 53 years before Tony’s passing. Evelyn loved knitting and crocheting. She made numerous afghans for her children, grandchildren, nieces, godchildren and for the Portuguese Celebrations. Evelyn loved her garden and always kept it neatly manicured, flowers were always blooming. Evelyn’s other hobbies included bowling and playing cards with her friends, and several trips to the casino.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Tony Luis; parents, Manuel and Fenicia Souza; daughter in-law, Connie Luis; as well as her brothers and sisters. Evelyn is survived by her children, Antoinette Duarte (Tony), Lori Ann Luis (Joe Leos), Tony Luis (Angelina Moore) and John Luis; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and her companion Maddie, who too will miss her mom, but will be very well taken care of. Rest in peace mom.

Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Luis family. Evelyn’s funeral service will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with the Recitation of the Rosary followed by Mass of Christian burial.
