Erika Kathryn Maas, 23, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 following a long illness.

Born on March 8, 1985, she was a young woman who loved helping people and always tried to comfort those around her. She was a strong advocate for diabetic youth and formed a support group at age 14. She was proud of her love for family, her faith in God and country and was dedicated to studying the medical arts.

She was a 2003 graduate of Downey High, singing all four years in the Downey Choirs. She attended MJC where she completed EMS training while she worked at Doctors Medical Center. Her goal was to become a doctor.

Survivors include her parents, Dan and Jana Maas; her sister, Alyssa; aunts, uncles, cousins and her grandmother, Nella Sorrenti.

Services were graveside at Burwood Cemetery, followed by a memorial service and reception at the Escalon United Methodist Church. Remembrances may be made in her name to The Escalon United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
