Elmo Ward

Elmo Orlo Ward, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, with his wife and daughter at his side. Elmo was born in White Oaks, New Mexico, to Barney Elmo Ward and Mary Carter on May 2, 1920.

He married Ardythe Campbell on Sept. 17, 1943, and he cherished 69 years with his loving 'Sweetie Pie.' He farmed almonds on Lemon Avenue in Escalon for over 60 years. He also worked as a Civil Engineer for San Joaquin County Public Works for 33 years. Mr. Ward attended UCLA, was a navigator in the Air Force during WWII and was very active in the Grange, serving as district Deputy for San Joaquin and Calaveras Counties. He and Ardythe traveled in their trailer to every state and four trips to Alaska the last being in 2010. They also traveled to Australia, New Zealand and the British Iles.

Survivors include his loving wife, Ardythe; daughter Marlene Ward and grandson Michael Beetschen and daughter Lynnette (Bob) Kahn and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. Graveside services to follow immediately at Burwood Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Escalon Ambulance Fund.
