Dale passed at home surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his mother Buelah Naney, father Earl Steelman and sister Carolyn (Naney) Rossetti and daughter Cindy Jackson. Dale was born on the family farm in Summersville MO. He moved out west with his mother and stepfather Lee Naney at the age of 10.
They settled in Escalon where Dale went to school and graduated from Escalon High Class of ‘55. He went straight in to the Navy where he served honorably for seven years as an aviation photographer. He joined civilian life and worked as a Civil Engineering Planner at McClelland Air Force base for 33 years. At the same time he attended and graduated from Sacramento State while working full-time and raising six kids. He leaves behind his wife Josie and five children, Dale Steelman Jr., John Steelman, Lori Chavez, Mary Sebastian and Debbie Reece, 22 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. There will be a service open to all at granddaughter Erica’s house, 9200 Berber Road, Sacramento, CA on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Interment will be at Dixon National Cemetery with a military service Friday, Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
Dale had a saying on his wall stating “The Best Things In Life Aren’t Things.” He lived that every day of his life.
