Barbara Jean George, 67, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 in Ripon, surrounded by family and friends, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on March 20, 1943 and raised in Escalon. She graduated from Escalon High School, and then continued her education at Modesto Junior College and San Jose State University.

She returned to Escalon where she lived for the next 22 years, raising her two children, Mark George and Tracy Ogata.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and supporting their many activities. She found great joy traveling abroad with her friends and spent many years as an avid snow skier. She was strong in her Catholic faith and involved herself in many church activities.

Survivors include her children, son Mark George and his wife Jayne, grandsons Zachary and Carson; daughter Tracy Ogata and her husband Eric, granddaughters Cate and Annie; and two sisters, Joann Dykes and Jerri Breakfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents Crawford and Lela Denney, longtime residents of Escalon.

Visitation was at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon on Monday, Feb. 21 with a funeral service on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Escalon.
