Angelo Perry Blanco, 90, of Escalon, passed away on December 1, following a brief illness. He valued, above all, his loving family, many good friends, and serving his beloved community. Angelo was born in San Leandro, CA to Manuel and Angustia Blanco on December 22, 1931. He was proud to be a part of Escalon High School’s graduating class of 1950 and had Cougar Pride until he died. He was an Army veteran and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany for two years, where he met his wife, Waltraud ‘Wally’ Blanco. They married on March 12, 1955 in Weilburg, Germany. Angelo and Wally started their life together on a dairy farm in Escalon and soon had their only daughter, Deborah Harris.

Angelo was a very proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He was devoted to his granddaughters, Leslie and Casey and never missed a school play, softball game or cheer event. He continued to be present for his great-grandchildren and proudly attended games, dance recitals and school events for all six of his great-grandchildren.

Angelo enjoyed a 37-year career as a mechanic for the Campbell Soup Company in Modesto. He was a devoted community servant, volunteering with the Escalon Fire Department for 20 years. He was active with American Legion Post 263 for 41 years and could be seen proudly marching in parades and at football games as part of the Color Guard. He also participated in the American Legion Honor Guard as part of the firing squad and flag folding ceremony. Angelo founded the Over 80 Donut Club, celebrating Donut Shop friends on their 80th birthday.

Angelo is preceded in death by his mother and father, Angustia and Manuel Blanco; his wife, Wally; brother, Stephen Blanco; brother, Tony Blanco; and sister, Mary Silveira. Angelo is survived by daughter, Deborah Harris (Eric), granddaughter Leslie Harris Keane (Justin), granddaughter Casey Harris, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
