Wild Planet Day offered at MJC West

The MAPS, Modesto Area Partners in Science, will be presenting its Wild Planet Day festivities on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will be on the West Campus of Modesto Junior College, 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto.

Live animal shows will include Conservation Ambassadors’ Wild Things at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Sierra Hall Room 132; and Reptile Ron with two shows, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., in the Science Community Center 114.

At the ‘Pop Up Bug Museum’ in the Great Valley Museum Lobby, The Beetle Lady will have a display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also, Varietal Honey Tastings – recommended for those ages nine and older – with the “Queen Bee” Dr. Amina Harris will be presented in SCC 115, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Dr. Harris is the retired Director of UC Davis’ Honey and Pollination Center.

Also as part of the day, there will be a live butterfly experience and release at 2 p.m. and a Honeybee Haven in the Discovery Room of the Great Valley Museum, through the UC Davis California Master Beekeepers Program.

Local organizations and clubs with additional activities and tables are scheduled to include Yokuts Group of the Sierra Club, California Native Plant Society, Audubon Society – Stanislaus Chapter, Dos Rios State Parks, Xerxes Society, Girl Scouts, UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program, Tuolumne River Trust, and more.

MJC Clubs will be hosting tables for all ages as well. Wild Planet Day T-shirts will be available for purchase in the Great Valley Museum Gift Shop during the day, in adult and children’s sizes.
