Weekend Events Fill Community Calendar

There won’t be a shortage of things to do in Escalon this weekend – with multiple events planned over the two-day period of Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7.

All are invited to come and meet the OutKast Jeepers at Escalon’s Small Town Roots Farmers Market on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2996 McHenry Ave., Escalon. See the vehicles, visit with club members and purchase pre-sale raffle tickets to benefit the Elite Family Systems of Ceres, with the formal event hosted by the club to benefit the organization set for Saturday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. at the Oakdale Sportsmen’s Club. For information, call Robert at 209-481-0923. The OutKast Jeepers have members from Farmington, Oakdale, Escalon, Modesto and more.

Also on Saturday, be ready for plenty of traffic and shoppers in the city as the 26th annual Citywide Yard Sale is hosted. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, with over 75 sale locations listed on the map and other locations also offering spaces for people to set up their sales.

The event has drawn shoppers from the Bay Area, Sacramento, Sonora and more, with single family, multi family, church and organization sales going on throughout the community. Maps will be available at local businesses and also can be picked up outside City Hall, 2060 McHenry Ave., the day of the event.

It is Science Saturday at the Escalon Library as well, with the special program featuring Paper Airplanes scheduled for noon.

On Sunday, the Escalon Chamber of Commerce s putting on its Sunday in the Park event, complete with pumpkin decorating and a costume contest. Festivities are scheduled on Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hosted in the city’s Main Street Park, all are welcome to attend and take part in the sixth annual Homemade Costume Contest, from noon to 12:30 p.m., as well as enjoy carving a pumpkin to take home. Free for all kids, there will be different age divisions for the homemade costume contest and there will also be bobbing for apples, freshly popped popcorn will be available, the historic caboose will be open for tours and scary music will set the tone for the day.

The Chamber will supply the pumpkins; you supply the kids. Victorian Rose will be there showcasing some fall décor and Carly Mynear Photography will also have a Chamber ribbon cutting as part of the day’s festivities. EscalonFIT will have a family workout session in the park at 10:30 a.m., just prior to the start of Sunday in the Park events. Call 209-838-9915 for more information. There will also be an antique car Halloween contest.

Also on Sunday, local residents can take advantage of the used tire recycling and E-waste disposal event at the Escalon Community Center, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents can bring up to nine passenger car or light truck tires for disposal, on or off the rims. The E-waste disposal will occur as well, with residents able to bring in a variety of electronic items for disposal.

Looking ahead, next Saturday, Oct. 13 will feature a special event at the Escalon American Legion Hall on Second Street, as they open up a newly renovated meeting hall for tours. The Open House will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m.
