Escalon High School seniors Hailie Webster and Frank Leal were recently named as the school’s Trans-Valley League Scholar-Athletes for the 2018-19 school year.

“For the TVL Scholar Athlete, each school in the TVL gets to select a male and female recipient for the award,” explained Escalon High School Athletic Director Nate Bartelink. “As the award’s name says, it’s based on the student-athlete’s success in the classroom and in the athletic arena.”

The recipients, along with their parents, Bartelink and EHS Principal Eric Simoni attended the awards ceremony and luncheon earlier this month at the Turlock Golf and Country Club. Hailie Webster is the daughter of Chad and Dawn Webster; Frank Leal is the son of Robert and Debbie Leal.

“While there were many qualified candidates at EHS, Hailie and Frank set each other apart from the rest with high academics, good character and athletic impact,” added Bartelink.

Hailie has focused on her primary sport, softball, while Frank is a three-sport athlete at EHS.

“Hailie has earned over a 4.3 GPA, playing varsity softball for four years at a very high level and earned a scholarship to continue her education and softball career at University of North Carolina Charlotte,” Bartelink said. “Frank has earned over a 4.0 GPA while playing football, basketball and track all four years.”
