Toy Collection Effort Begins In Community
TOYS

A one-day sign-up for the Escalon Fire Department-Escalon American Legion Post holiday toy distribution is set for Dec. 11.

Families in need who want to sign up for a bag of age-appropriate toys for their children can do so from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Escalon Fire Station at 1749 Coley Ave., Escalon. This is for ages 17 and under; recipients must live within the Escalon Fire District, be in need and must provide identification. Also, on the day of the distribution the person who signed up for the program must attend and present ID at the time of pick up.

Firefighters have distributed the collection boxes around town, delivering them to multiple locations on Monday, Nov. 29 to get the drive underway. Donations of new, unwrapped toys for all ages, from infant to 17, are being sought for both boys and girls.

The collection will run through Friday, Dec. 17, when firefighters will return to the sites to pick up the boxes.

For those wishing to donate, boxes are available at Saron Lutheran Church, Heritage Church, Trinity Church, Van Allen and Dent elementary schools, El Portal Middle School, Escalon Premier Brands, Hogan Manufacturing and Main Street Garage. Also, the City of Escalon has a collection box at City Hall, with other boxes at Oak Valley Bank, MarVal Main Street Market, Pizza Plus, Mountain Mike’s, D’Boni’s Pizza, Vineyard Pharmacy, Bank of the West, Family Dollar, the American Legion Hall and the Escalon firehouse on Coley.

The distribution will be hosted on Wednesday, Dec. 22 beginning at 10 a.m. at the firehouse and again, it will be a drive-thru distribution this year. Recipients can drive up to the rear of the firehouse, where they will be checked in, their ID verified and the gift bags presented.

Residents are encouraged to donate for all ages to help families in need have a happy holiday season.
