While the swim team wasn't able to find any coaches and the lap swim has been canceled, the Escalon Community Pool is still open for public swimming, swimming lessons, deep water aerobics and special occasions.

The first session of swimming lessons for the summer kicked off Monday, June 8 and will run through June 19. Session 2 runs from June 22 through July 3, with session 3 from July 6 through 17. Session 4 closes out the summer with lessons from July 20 through 31.

The youngest swimmers, level 1 for 3- to 5-year-olds, meet in classes at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Level 2, 4- to 6-year-olds meet at 10 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. and level 3, for ages six and up, meets at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Higher skills levels include levels 4, 5 and 6 and build on the completion of the earlier courses.

Level 4 swimmers can take lessons at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or 5 p.m. with level 5 instruction offered at 10 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. Level 6 classes run at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The Mommy and Me class is at 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Adult swim lessons are at noon. Fee per session is $30 for the first child, $25 for each additional child with adult lessons offered at $30. The Mommy and Me class is $25.

Those wanting to register for Session 2 have until Friday, June 19 to get signed up for the class. Register at City Hall on Main Street.

Those that signed up and paid the registration fee for the Escalon Orcas swim team are receiving refunds. No volunteer coaches came forward so the local competitive swim team had to cancel its season.

Public swimming is offered Monday through Saturday from 1 pm. to 5 p.m. at a cost of $2 per person. The Saturday hours will run through June only. Pool hours will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in July.

Deep Water Aerobics is also offered in morning and evening classes. The morning class combines shallow and deep water aerobics that focus on cardiovascular endurance and calorie burning, muscular strength and fat burning, lengthening of muscles, flexibility and good posture. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. with a cost of $5 per class. Minimum age is 14 and you must register at City Hall by purchasing a punch card there. Flotation belts are not required. Water shoes are encouraged but not required. Call Danielle Voral for more information, 606-0107.

The evening class is a deep water aerobics class that focuses on calorie burning, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and cardio endurance. Offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., the evening classes cost $45 per session and the second session will run from July 2 through July 30. Sign up at City Hall and participants must purchase a flotation belt prior to starting class. Call Robin Giuntoli for more information, 531-7626.
